I've spent 12 years helping brands turn small objects into small moments.
I'm Mara Whitfield — a gifting consultant and brand marketing strategist based in Brooklyn. I started Paper & Pixels in 2021 after a decade of running campaigns for paper goods, lifestyle and direct-to-consumer brands. This is the corner of the internet where I write about the things I'd actually send to my own mother.
What I do
By day, I consult with consumer brands on launch strategy, packaging and gift-with-purchase programs. I've worked with stationery houses, wedding planners, and a handful of indie designers who sell on Zazzle's marketplace. By night (and weekend, and lunch break), I write about what regular humans should actually buy when they need to show up for someone.
Why Zazzle, specifically
I've audited dozens of print-on-demand and personalization platforms in client work. Zazzle keeps showing up at the top for three reasons: the designer marketplace is enormous, the editor actually lets you change things (most platforms lie about this), and the production quality is the most consistent I've tested. I'm not paid by Zazzle. I am a referral partner — that link in the corner earns me a small commission, which is what keeps this blog ad-free.
How I pick what to recommend
- · I buy it with my own card before writing about it.
- · I keep a sample drawer — if it doesn't survive a year, it's out.
- · I cross-check designer ratings and reorder rates.
- · I don't take free product in exchange for coverage. Ever.
